What Is ADHD?
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition affecting attention, impulse control, and executive function. It's not about being "lazy" or "unfocused" — it's a genuine neurological difference in how the brain manages attention, arousal, and reward processing.
In children, ADHD is often visible in educational settings — difficulty sitting still, following instructions, or completing tasks. In adults, it can look quite different: chronic disorganisation, time blindness, relationship difficulties, and underachievement despite high intelligence.
A diagnosis doesn't define you. It provides a framework that finally makes sense of your experience — and opens the door to strategies and support that genuinely work.
The Three ADHD Subtypes
Predominantly Inattentive
Difficulty sustaining attention, losing things, forgetting tasks, being easily distracted. Often called "daydreamer" type — frequently missed in childhood, especially in girls.
Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive
Difficulty sitting still, interrupting, impulsive decision-making, excessive talking. More commonly recognised in children, particularly boys.
Combined Type
The most common presentation — a combination of inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms. Affects both children and adults significantly.
